IQ Test DK, answers and reasoning.

The knowledge in this post is presented based on the following link. I'll explain the logic behind its final and hardest puzzles.

30 A  - Pay careful attention to the images. Images in the middle are shrunk when they combine with the image on the left to form the image on the right. The middle image is reduced to the size of the image on the left, resulting in a square of the same size and an additional black ball.

31 D   - Images in each corner are formed by two combined shapes from their nearest respective directions.

32 E   -  Obvious, one segment moves each time.

33 G    -  There are three separate patterns, each is placed at a certain angle.

34 G    - The middle circle acts as a + or - function. Balls outside are minus, inside are addition.

35 C   -  There's a pivot in each arrow, for the two patterns above it's in the middle, for the third it's in the
bottom right.

36 F    -  Imagine it's a bar chart. In patterns, the largest 'bar' appears three times, and one and two sized

bars appear twice. Using these patterns you can deduce that the answer must be F.

37 H    -  The entire image is a continuous pattern. A black square appears every turn. There are two balls
that move one space right every turn. When they pass a black square, they are not only invisible, but they
change colous when they emerge.

38     -   The arrow not only enlargens but changes orientation too.

39 B     -   Each symbol moves right one space per turn. Triangles turn to Xs, Xs to Os, and Os to triangles.

  1. i don't figure out how 39 works.
from the top left corner square do we read dow or right?
and then "each symbol moves right one space per turn" means nothing to me.
is there someone intelligent here to explain plainly the trick? thanks

    1. My answer in no. 39 is B following a pattern of cross-circle-triangle, triangle-cross-circle, circle-triangle-cross moving to the right. So the pattern would be... x// /o/ //t, and for the 2nd figure Triangle, it would be... /t/ //x /// with the o moved to the 2nd row starting from the left. And so on... Hope I've been of help...

    4. You cannot get 148 in this test becouse the maximun is 145 (maybe a bad movement in numeric keyboard). I reached it :)))

      You are right anyway.

  2. Each symbol moves right. When Rightest column jumps to Left each symbol moves down. Triangles turn to Xs, Xs to Os, and Os to triangles.

  3. I got perfect on this test back when it had the coloured puzzles in the final 4. The test has become a lot harder since then, to me. Since I've come here it looks like I can never take the test again. :(

Thanks for the outlook though. I never thought of looking at 39 or 37 that way. (I might have solved 37, but I never would have gotten 39.)

  4. are you sure about the answer to number 36? isn't E also correct? or maybe I just didn't understand how to actually solve it...

  5. Thanks, was helpful.

However, I believe that the following answer explanations are underspecified:

    32
    35
    36
    38

A few of the questions had more than one pattern that could be justified as well, but this is a problem with the test itself.

  6. 36 is not complete....in every column and row the biggest pattern is appears in 3 different colours and in every row the "chart" has 3 directions: up, right and left

  7. E is another consistent and logical interpretation in my opinion

  10. 35 is C indeed. But the explanation given here is insufficient. Just concluding that there is a pivot (rotation point) in each arrow that rotates the images 90 degrees between the first column and the last leaves the middle column meaningless. And it provides no logic to why the rotation point is in the bottom right and the rotation is counterclockwise while it was in the middle and clockwise with the upper two. You might as well place the pivot in the top right and rotate clockwise to produce A. You may even conclude that the complete image is rotated 90 degrees clockwise between the first and the last image (still ignoring the middle column) and end up with E as the correct answer.

I think the correct explanation is that images from the first column are rotated (flipped or mirrored if you will) over the axis given in the second column to produce the image in the last column. This way C is the only option.

    1. Yeah, you're right. The images are flipped and rotated over the axis given in the second column.

  11. I was a little confused about your answer to 39 as the explanation you provided doesn't seem sufficient, for I got a different answer - I would be grateful if someone could point out the flaw in my reasoning:

In every matrix, the circles are always adjacent to EVERY other square. In the provided answers, the only option where this is the case is H.

    Confused. Thanks.

    1. When you switch to the next row you flip the grid by 90 degrees clockwise. than you work from there.

  12. I don't understand 39, can someone explain it to me? why are the symbols moving to the right? I don't see them moving to the right at all.

and for 35, just imagine the line in the middle is a mirror (the reflection is 90 degree), and it reflects the arrow, so the last row, the arrow is in the outer right, after the reflection, it will be at the bottom of the square.

for 36, each image, the whole image (includes one 3 square-bars, one 2 square-bar, and one 1 square-bar) moves to the left one space at the start of a new row. Which means that the image we're looking for was originally the middle image of the first row. when a new row starts, the whole image moves left one space, so now it is the first image of the 2nd row. the BARS move down one space, notice how the 3-square-bar was at the top in the first row is now in the middle. But the color move UP one space, so the black color originally from the 1-square-bar is now moved up, and the 2-square-bar (in the second row) is now inheriting the color black. the third row starts, the whole image moves left, so now it is the third image of the third row. Apply the same rules and you got your answer. Bars move down, colors move up.

    2. My answer in no. 39 is B following a pattern of X-O-triangle, triangle-X-O, O-triangle-X moving to the right. So the pattern would be... x// /o/ //t, and for the 2nd figure Triangle, it would be... /t/ //x /// with the o moved to the 2nd row starting from the left. And so on...
      Ex.
      Pattern for X:
      X / /..... / o /..... / / t

      Pattern for T:
      / T / ...../ / x..... / / /
      / / / ...../ / /..... o / /

      Pattern for O:
      / / O..... / / /..... / / /
      / / /..... t / /..... / x /

I deleted my first reply because I didn't know spaces are deleted when posted so I replaced it with (.)

      Hope I've been of help.

    3. The symbols are moved one step according to this system:
      123
      456
      789
Symbol at the position 9 are moved to position 1.
After each of the symbols are moved it is also internally rotated so that symbol A turns into B and B into C and C into A.

  13. bibi: I used a much simpler solution for 39. Start by counting the number of cell pairs in each column, then bunch the grids together vertically. The pattern should be apparent. For each group of three grids, the left column has a pair of triangles and a pair of X'es, the center column a pair of O's and X'es, and the right column a pair of O's and triangles. So, the missing shape needs to have a pair of triangles in the left column, no pairs in the middle column, and a pair of circles in the right column.

  15. 36 is simple if grouping charts. Suppose Ten key 7 is top-left-corner chart, then 3 is bottom-right-corner chart. (9, 5, 1)is left-side group. (7, 6, 2)is bottom-side group. (4, 8, 3)is right-side group. Those sides bars start.
In each group, each colour given 3 different sizes. In the group, the same colour never be the same position (left or middle or right).
The answer must be right-side group, C or D or F or G. If choose F, colour position is not same with other chart in the group, so F is right answer.

  17. 39, At the rightest column(not in the matrix) symbols don't moves.
Symbols change to different symbols in matrix only at middle and left column.
As autor zimmah says, left column matrix are same with rotating the rightest matrix by 90 degrees clockwise. but no matter with solution.

  24. I dont understand your answer to the question 36, but I deduced it by this way:
    - Each row has 2 components with horizontal bars, one begins from right side and the other begins from left side; and a vertical one. In the third row you have a vertical and an horizontal from left component, so you need an horizontal from right component (just like F,D or C).
    - The vertical component has the same form that the horizontal from right component (so we still have F,D or C options).
    - The colors in the vertical component moves one position to the left before to turn it to the left to get the horizontal from right component. Hence, F is the answer.
